Love has a foundation

I John 4:19

We love, because He first loved us.

We wonder sometimes why following Jesus is so difficult and frustrating…ok most of the time.

Our mindsets are so focused on the ‘keep His commandments’ part, that we lose site of the ‘abide in me. And I’ll abide in you’ part.

Let me help you, God’s love is perfect. It does not mean I understand completely, and it certainly does not follow human logic or human emotions. In fact, God’s love for us defies human emotion and logic, because He made the choice a long time ago to love us PERIOD.

He has chosen to love us through making a way for permanent relationship with His son Jesus.

All you parents out there, do your kids do silly things that make you mad or disappointed for a moment? Of course they do. But I want you to take a minute and think, “is there something my kid(s) could ever do to cause me to stop loving them”?

I cannot.

Why?

Because I made the choice to love them when they were still in the womb. Through relationship the human emotion of love has strengthened the choice to love them.

God made the choice a long time ago to love you. Then He made a way to have relationship with you, to strengthen that love between you both.

My kids would not be able to love me like they do, without me making myself available to them in relationship and building that over time. They love me, because I first loved them.

God loved you first, and because of that love, you now have the capacity to love Him back. Trust me when I say, that love grows as you build relationship with Him, not as you work hard to follow every rule. My kids dont love because i gave them rules, and i dont love them because they follow the rules given them.

God does not love you on the basis of following His rules, He loves you on the basis that He chose to love you, and through Jesus, made a way for you to love Him in return through relationship with Him.

Let the love of God begin to penetrate your heart and mind so that you can love like He does and following Him stops being work and becomes a joy.

Selah.
